What is Ceramic Tint?

Updated: Mar 3, 2022

Window tinting is no longer just for aesthetics and making your vehicle look good. Window tint has come a long way and can actually provide excellent heat rejection and UV protection. Window tint comes in multiple grades, with ceramic window tint being the highest grade that provides you the greatest performance. The several grades for window film include dyed film, carbon film, and ceramic film.

Dyed Window Tint: This window tint is made with a polyester material and liquid dye. The liquid dye is applied to the level of ‘tint’ desired. The darker the tint, the lower the percentage VLT. For example, a dark “limo tint” would have a visible light transmission rating of 5 percent. Dyed film does the job in terms of making your car look good, but it doesn’t provide high performance benefits. With its use of dye, these films also have the tendency to fade and turn purple overtime.

Carbon Window Tint: Carbon window tint is a multilayer film with an infusion of carbon tint materials which add longevity to this film. Carbon window tinting film provides a tasteful aesthetic and long-lasting option for windows. Unlike dyed window tint film, it does not fade with time.

Ceramic Window Tint: Ceramic window tint uses nanotechnology to provide high performance benefits. It is a multi-layered film that uses microscopic ceramic particles that block 99% of UVA and UVB rays. These window films are infused with IR blocking technology that can help significantly reduce the heat entering the vehicle.

What is Ceramic Window Tint?

  1. Hard Coat- The top layer is the hard coat, this layer contains nanoparticles that add strength and make ceramic film more resistant to scratching.

  2. Clear Polyester Layer- This is the basic layer of polyester that is added for thickness

  3. Laminate Adhesive - In this layer, the ceramic nanoparticles are blended to create the VLT or % level. It helps improve visibility and clarity even in low light conditions. Many experts believe the clarity of this film increases the visibility greatly compared to lower grade films.

  4. The final two layers are another layer of clear polyester (to sandwich the ceramic particles together) and a mounting adhesive for installation

Why Is Ceramic Window Tint the Best?

Ceramic window tint is engineered for superior clarity, 99% blockage of UVA and UVB rays, and most importantly it helps keep the inside of your vehicle cooler.

Exceptional Heat Protection

Ceramic window films can block as much as 98% of the sun’s infrared radiation through added IR blocking technology. This will help keep the vehicle much more comfortable, and cooler.

Improved Clarity & Visibility

Ceramic window films are constructed with high quality products, making their clarity much greater than lower grades of window film.

Block Harmful UVA and UVB Rays

UV rays are harmful and dangerous to both the vehicle and its occupants. UV rays are known to be cancer-causing and cause premature skin aging. For your vehicle, these harmful UV rays are responsible for fading, cracking, and discoloration. Ceramic window tint will block 99% of these harmful UVA and UVB rays.

Is Ceramic Tint Worth It?

If you’re looking for the cheapest window tint available, ceramic film is not for you. It is a premium luxury product and does have a higher price point. However, these ceramic window films do offer car owners more bang for their buck in terms of interior protection. The added IR heat rejection, the increased clarity, and longer durability span make ceramic window tint a great investment to a vehicle.
